Find the target. Then earn the right to build

Every campaign follows one sequence: find the target, test whether it fits, assemble the people, build, measure, submit, and keep the record.

Sequence

Discover through document

Discover

Scout prize programs, scientific grand challenges, public innovation prizes, and open technical bounties. Record the official source, the rules, and the timeline before any further work.

Evaluate

Screen for eligibility, independent judging, technical fit, public benefit, partners, whether validation is achievable, and how much capital the attempt would take.

Assemble

Name a technical captain for that campaign and bring in domain specialists for that problem. The planned core stays. The field bench changes with the work.

Prototype

Build the apparatus, model, or system the rules require. Keep the build tied to the judging criteria rather than to a separate demonstration.

Test & Validate

Run the measurements the prize asks for. Record methods, conditions, and results so an independent judge can follow the evidence.

Submit

File the entry in the form the prize organization specifies. Team XSO does not judge its own outcome.

Document & Repeat

Keep the evidence, publish what the public should see, and go back to scouting.

Three horizons

One standard. Three kinds of time.

Smaller technical bounties

Shorter efforts where a defined result can be validated without a multi-year build.

Medium-term prototyping challenges

Work that needs instruments, iteration, and often a lab or field collaborator.

Multi-year grand prizes

Campaigns on the scale of a flagship prize, with a standing captain and a bench that changes as the problem changes.

Before a build

What has to be true first

The rules allow it

The organization, the people, and the entry meet the prize's own rules.

Someone else judges it

The outcome is defined and decided outside Team XSO.

The team can do the work

A small core and the right specialists can actually attempt it.

The result matters

The outcome is worth something beyond the contest itself.

The bench is real

The place to build, the instruments, and the people who know them are named before the work starts.

The measurement can be run

The prize's test is something the team can perform and write down.

The organization can carry it

The campaign fits what Team XSO can support. If it does not, it waits.
